This is an acrylic painting by me on a linen panel. I used the technique of decalcomania in this work. Decalcomania was a technique used by other artists in the past, such as the Surrealist Max Ernst, as in his painting ‘Europe After the Rain II’ (1940-1942). Decalcomania creates random patterns and shapes in painting, and you can often see images in the patterns and shapes, such as faces and mountains (Pareidolia), which I saw here in my painting, which may be perceived differently than what someone else sees. The decalcomania makes this painting look like an alien world to me, with its unusual formations. I used a plastic sheet and a paint roller (brayer) to achieve this effect on the linen board, mostly with turquoise deep paint, which is transparent. I painted the cacti-like images along the bottom edge of the decalcomania, which resemble column cacti grouped together, using a limited palette.
